Topic CSR – WFSGI seeks synergies for the industry
The bicycle industry is facing a growing importance of Corporate Responsibility (social & environmental) in the supply chain. Some big companies are already active, but the bicycle industry consists of many small and middle-sized companies who need to start from scratch and find strategies. They do not have the resources or the knowledge to set up an own system for monitoring all suppliers. On the other hand, it is also not in the interest of the suppliers – who in most cases work for several customers – to be confronted with many different assessment and monitoring systems.
Jeroen Snijders-Blok, COO Accell Group and Executive Board WFSGI, says: “I am convinced that the WFSGI can support to create synergies on Corporate Responsibility within the global bicycle industry by combining the assessment, follow-up and monitoring of our suppliers to dedicated professionals working for an independent company in this field . This is a unique opportunity to join forces on CR. We are responsible but not able to act accordingly as individual companies.”
Based on earlier experiences in the sporting shoes industry, Fair Factories Clearinghouse (FFC) is selected to explain the contribution they can offer to the bicycle industry. Shared efforts create more effective and efficient monitoring practices for brands and the industry.
